PLUTA restructuring expert Michael Bremen is the provisional administrator of Berns Bakery

The bakery Bäckerei Berns KG filed an application for the opening of insolvency proceedings on 12 August 2019. On the same day, the Local Court of Mönchengladbach ordered measures to preserve the company’s assets and appointed Mr Michael Bremen, a restructuring expert from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH, as the provisional insolvency administrator.

Bäckerei Berns KG produces its bakery products in its own bakehouse, located in Viersen, and distributes them via eight shops in the near surroundings. The company also supplies resellers such as canteens, hotels and retirement homes. Bäckerei Berns KG has a workforce of 56 employees and three apprentices.

Business operations are being maintained without restriction, as approved by the provisional insolvency administrator Mr Bremen. This is possible since the main suppliers agreed to continue supplying the company in discussions held with them.

Attorney Michael Bremen and his PLUTA team, which also includes the attorneys Dr Uwe Paul and Mr Oliver Westkamp, have already obtained an initial overview of the company’s financial situation. Moreover, it has also been possible to prefinance the insolvency substitute benefits to be paid to the staff. In the next few days, the restructuring expert Mr Michael Bremen will continue to analyse the company’s financial situation so as to meet the requirements for restructuring the bakery as planned.

Mr Bremen said, “Customers can continue buying the high-quality bakery products in the shops. Our aim is to preserve the long-established bakery for the region.”
