Download as PDFDr Christian Kaufmann, insolvency administrator of Strandhotel Kurhaus Juist, has provided an update on the current progress of the proceedings. The restructuring expert from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH said, “Even though the proceedings have been opened, the hotel remains in business. This long-standing establishment is an integral part of the island’s tourism offering.” On 1 April 2025, the Local Court of Aurich opened insolvency proceedings for the assets of Strandhotel Kurhaus Juist GmbH and appointed Dr Christian Kaufmann as regular administrator. He had already been acting as provisional administrator since the application for insolvency was filed in late January.
PLUTA attorney Dr Kaufmann emphasised that discussions with potential investors are ongoing. He said, “The opening of the proceedings is an important legal step. We are working hard on a follow-up solution for the business and are confident that we will achieve that this summer.” The hotel run by Strandhotel Kurhaus Juist GmbH remains fully operational, including its dining services. Guests can expect breakfast, coffee and cake selections as usual, as well as an evening à la carte offering and menu choices. The quality and attention to service remain as high as ever.
“This is a major credit to the team of about 50 staff, who are demonstrating exceptional commitment to their work during this challenging period,” said Dr Kaufmann. He is being supported in the PLUTA restructuring team by attorney Mr Alexander Bortfeldt and business lawyer Ms Nicole Neumerkel.
Business supported by community of owners
Kurhaus Juist still retains its four-star rating and is classified as superior – a status it is keen to see confirmed in the upcoming review by the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA). Management is eager to particularly highlight the commitment shown by the community owning the rooms and suites, which fully supports the establishment’s continued existence. These owners are also vital to keeping it running at this time, for example by taking on the costs incurred, and are playing an active role in helping to shape the hotel’s long-term future.
Going forward, particular emphasis will be placed on adopting a more flexible marketing strategy for the establishment. The aim is to position Kurhaus Juist even more effectively in the market – without compromising its proven quality and standards. The hotel continues to view itself as an integral part of the Juist island community. Island residents and holidaymakers alike are warmly invited to form their own impression – by booking a stay at the hotel or enjoying a dining experience there with a view of the sea.
