PLUTA restructuring expert Dr Kaufmann finds follow-up solution for seaside hotel Juist

Having kept the business operating for more than seven months within the framework of insolvency proceedings, administrator Dr Christian Kaufmann from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH has found a follow-up solution for Strandhotel Kurhaus Juist GmbH. After extensive discussions and negotiations, the restructuring expert reached an agreement with an acquirer. Asteria Hospitality Juist GmbH has taken over the business and kept on all 40 or so employees effective 1 September 2025.

Dr Kaufmann, a specialist attorney and restructuring expert, said, “The transition will be seamless for guests. All holidays already booked will go ahead as planned. New bookings are also welcome.”

“A good outcome for Juist”

Since the business filed for insolvency, Dr Kaufmann has kept it operating with the assistance of his team, which further includes attorneys Mr Alexander Bortfeldt and Ms Laura Stickens as well as business lawyer Ms Nicole Neumerkel and Mr Frederic Hupens, both management experts. Dr Kaufmann has also worked with all involved on a follow-up solution for the well-known hotel. This can now be implemented following numerous discussions with, for instance, the community of owners, the investors and the creditors, especially the lending institutions involved. “I am delighted that the detailed discussions have led to a follow-up solution that will not only preserve the long-standing hotel but also safeguard the employees’ jobs. This is a good outcome for guests, the workforce and the island of Juist as a whole,” said Dr Kaufmann.

The Local Court of Aurich opened insolvency proceedings for the assets of Strandhotel Kurhaus Juist GmbH and appointed Dr Christian Kaufmann from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH as administrator in April 2025. He had already been involved as provisional insolvency administrator for the company since mid-January 2025.

The shareholders of Asteria Hospitality Juist GmbH see great potential in the long-standing hotel and wish to carry on its tradition. Their goal is to further develop the location on a sustainable basis and to shape the hotel’s future together with staff.
