Download as PDFMr Steffen Beck from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH has found an investor for Kothe Destillationstechnik GmbH based in Eislingen/Fils. Reiner Schmitt GmbH Brennereitechnik has acquired the business by way of an asset deal effective 1 June 2026.
The parties have agreed not to disclose any details concerning the purchase price. PLUTA partner Mr Steffen Beck said, “I am pleased that we have found a viable solution for Kothe Destillationstechnik GmbH. The expertise and brand will be maintained. The successful conclusion of the transaction is the result of constructive cooperation between all parties involved, for which I am very grateful.”
Continuation ensured basis for investor solution
Kothe Destillationstechnik GmbH develops and manufactures distillation equipment with a capacity of 50 to 5,000 litres. This is used to produce high-quality premium distillates for whisky, rum, gin and other spirits. In December 2025, the Local Court of Göppingen ordered provisional insolvency administration and appointed attorney Mr Steffen Beck from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH as provisional administrator.
On 2 March 2026, the court opened the regular proceedings and appointed Mr Steffen Beck as insolvency administrator for the manufacturer of distillation equipment. Since the company filed for insolvency, he has kept the business operating together with his team, which comprises attorney Dr Matthias Lehr and business lawyer Ms Sarah Dingler.
The team has fulfilled all orders as planned. Dr Matthias Lehr from the PLUTA restructuring team said, “The successful continuation of operations and the professional cooperation have been instrumental in the success of the investor process. There were several parties interested in acquiring the business.”
The process was supported by FalkenSteg as M&A advisor and has been concluded with the acquisition by Reiner Schmitt GmbH Brennereitechnik, a company specialising in process and plant engineering, which designs, engineers and delivers purpose-built distillation plants for aroma distillates and neutral alcohols. It has acquired Kothe Destillationstechnik GmbH in order to expand its in-house product portfolio.
