Download as PDFSporting goods retailer Sporthaus Wohlleben GmbH has filed for insolvency. On 16 October 2025, the Local Court of Coburg ordered provisional administration for the company’s assets and appointed Mr Peter Roeger from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH as provisional insolvency administrator.
The specialist retailer of sporting and leisure equipment remains fully operational. Customers are still welcome to visit its store in Dörfles-Esbach and to bring their bikes to its bicycle repair shop. The salaries of the 44 employees are guaranteed for a period of three months thanks to specific substitute benefits provided under German insolvency law. The insolvency has come about as a consequence of persistent customer reluctance to spend as well as rising costs and price pressure in the retail sector. A fire in 2024 also put a strain on the company’s financial situation. Ultimately, these circumstances have led to liquidity problems.
PLUTA restructuring expert Mr Peter Roeger said, “We have already visited the business and gained an initial overview. The staff were informed about the current situation at a meeting and the business is continuing to operate. Customers can purchase items at the Dörfles-Esbach shop and through the online store. The bicycle repair shop is also still open, and staff are carrying out the necessary work to the usual high standards.” The administrator is handling the proceedings together with business lawyer Mr Maximilian Wanko.
Managing director Mr Marcel Altenfelder added, “Given the financial situation, we have had to act now and file for insolvency. We have been in business for a long time. We will now review all of the options with the insolvency administrator to find a sustainable solution.” The motivated team will be on hand to offer expert advice to customers over the coming weeks. “We hope that customers continue to shop with us and support us during this difficult period,” said the managing director.
Sporthaus Wohlleben GmbH based in Dörfles-Esbach is a family-run specialist retailer of sporting equipment and bicycles. The company has its own brick-and-mortar shop as well as an online store and offers a wide range of sporting goods, bikes, clothing and accessories. It also has its own bicycle repair shop and prides itself on its personalised advice, fast service and close customer relationships.
