Download as PDFHeilbronner Falken GmbH & Co. KG has filed for insolvency. By order dated 28 January 2026, the Local Court of Heilbronn ordered provisional insolvency administration for the ice hockey club’s assets and appointed Mr Peter Roeger from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH as provisional administrator. The PLUTA team includes attorney Ms Heike Metzger, who heads up the firm’s Heilbronn branch.
Ice hockey team Heilbronner Falken (‘Heilbronn Falcons’) has been playing in the Upper League South since 2023. The club was founded as Heilbronner Eishockeyclub in 1986, and the men’s professional team was spun off as a separate entity, Heilbronner Falken GmbH & Co. KG, in 2003. The company has had to file for insolvency due to payment difficulties. In July 2025, the Falcons only secured a licence for the Upper League South retroactively with conditions attached and a deduction of six points. Although it will not be able to participate in the March playoffs on account of the insolvency, the plan is to ensure it continues to fulfil its fixtures. The last game of the regular season is scheduled for 27 February 2026.
In an initial statement, PLUTA restructuring expert Mr Peter Roeger said, “We are already on the ground, and have spoken with the players. The team wants to finish out the season despite the insolvency. The next home game on 30 January and the next away game on 1 February will definitely go ahead. We are also working with great urgency to ensure the team can fulfil all its fixtures to the end of the season. We will update the fans on this as soon as possible, and would appreciate all the support they can give in the coming days.”
The attorney has also held initial discussions with the managing director and the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). He will promptly take all necessary action to ensure that the team can continue to fulfil its fixtures between now and the end of the season. The Heilbronn Falcons have their next home game against the Stuttgart Rebels at the Heilbronn ice stadium on Friday, 30 January 2026. The away game against EC Peiting on Sunday, 1 February 2026 will also go ahead. There is already good news for the team: “The players’ salaries are guaranteed until the end of February thanks to specific substitute benefits provided under German insolvency law. All employees will receive their pay,” said the provisional insolvency administrator.
Mr Peter Roeger is a specialist attorney for insolvency and restructuring law and has previous experience of dealing with an ice hockey club insolvency: he was appointed administrator for the Bayreuth Tigers in 2024.
