PLUTA attorney Peter Roeger appointed provisional administrator for Bayreuth Tigers Eishockey GmbH

26 January 2024 · Bayreuth · Business Area Insolvency Administration

Bayreuth Tigers Eishockey GmbH has filed for insolvency. By its decision taken on 26 January 2024, the Local Court of Bayreuth ordered provisional insolvency proceedings and appointed Mr Peter Roeger from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH as provisional administrator.

Bayreuth Tigers Eishockey GmbH was founded in 2017. Since then, it has organised the participation of the senior men’s ice hockey team in one of the German ice hockey leagues and handled all marketing activities. The men’s team has been playing in the Upper League South since 2023.

Attorney Mr Roeger will now hold discussions with company management and the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). Over the coming days, he will assess what action needs to be taken so that the ice hockey team can continue to fulfil its fixtures between now and the end of the season. The next home game for the Bayreuth Tigers was scheduled to take place on Sunday, 28 January 2024, at the artificial ice stadium in Bayreuth. This has had to be postponed at short notice and is now expected to go ahead on 17 February 2024. The away game next Tuesday, 30 January 2024, will be played in all likelihood.

PLUTA attorney Mr Roeger said, “We will move with great urgency over the coming days to ensure that the team can continue to fulfil its fixtures despite the ongoing provisional insolvency proceedings. If all involved pull in the same direction as us, then the home game on 4 February should go ahead as planned. I hope we can count on great support over the coming days and weeks.”

As soon as the details have been clarified, the provisional insolvency administrator will provide an update on the future fixtures. There is already good news for the players. “We have checked whether the team’s salaries can be guaranteed using the specific substitute benefits provided under German insolvency law, and that is indeed the case. Therefore, all players will receive these benefits until the end of February,” said Mr Roeger. The last game of the regular season is scheduled to take place on 25 February 2024.

Mr Peter Roeger is a specialist attorney for insolvency and restructuring law. He is being supported in the proceedings by business lawyer Mr Holger Christian Buehler.
