Download as PDFRestructuring expert Mr Georg Jakob Stemshorn from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH has provided an update on the Scantinel Photonics GmbH proceedings. The provisional insolvency administrator is currently conducting a structured M&A process and is negotiating with several interested parties in Germany and further afield.
Scantinel Photonics has been involved in provisional proceedings since 6 August 2025. The Local Court of Ulm appointed Mr Stemshorn as provisional insolvency administrator. The start-up develops innovative chips for autonomous driving and employs around 50 people, who continue to be highly motivated in their work.
Mr Georg Jakob Stemshorn said, “The company offers innovative technology and the employees possess valuable know-how. We are currently holding detailed discussions with several potential investors. Our goal is to conclude the M&A process in the near future.” The PLUTA team also includes business lawyer Mr Maximilian König.
M&A experts Mr Philippe Piscol and Mr Maximilian Schäfer from Dr. Wieselhuber & Partner are supporting the process of finding an investor. Scantinel Photonics needs a financially strong investor to secure the start-up’s future. Scantinel Photonics CTO Mr Andy Zott said, “Our start-up is working in a promising market and has great potential. We hope an investor will take this opportunity to invest in our company.”
Scantinel Photonics was founded in 2019 and is based in Ulm. The company is a leading provider of FMCW LiDAR technology for autonomous vehicles and robotics. LiDAR (which stands for Light Detection and Ranging) is regarded as a key technology for self-driving cars. Compared to existing LiDAR technology (which utilises the time-of-flight principle), FMCW technology enables object detection at greater distances and with better reliability, especially in adverse weather conditions. FMCW LiDAR is therefore a key technology for the mobility of the future.
