Logistics expert Wandt to restructure itself as a debtor in possession

3 March 2025 · Hanover · Business Area Insolvency Administration

Wandt Spedition Transportberatung GmbH based in Braunschweig filed an application for restructuring under debtor-in-possession proceedings on 25 February 2025. Attorney Mr Torsten Gutmann from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH has been appointed provisional insolvency monitor. Debtor-in-possession proceedings offer the logistics specialist a proven legal framework within which it can take the necessary restructuring measures in a timely and effective manner while maintaining its business operations.

The 134 employees’ wages and salaries are guaranteed for a period of three months thanks to specific substitute benefits provided under German insolvency law.

A team under attorney Dr Adrian Bölingen, a Baker Tilly partner, will represent Wandt during the proceedings and advise it on all matters of insolvency law. The logistics company has already worked with management consultancy CONFER-SI in recent weeks to identify measures aimed at adjusting the business model and cutting costs; some of these measures are already in the process of being implemented.

85 years of experience in the logistics and transport sector
Wandt Spedition Transportberatung GmbH based in Braunschweig is a family-run business with the third generation at its helm. Having begun as a conventional forwarding company for regional freight transportation, Wandt has evolved over the years to become a provider of comprehensive transport and logistics services for the national and international movement of goods. The company also offers commercial vehicle washing and leases a filling station.

The long-standing business is facing financial challenges due to declining sales with major customers and general difficult market conditions. It will now continue the restructuring efforts already begun as a debtor in possession.

“We will use the opportunity to reposition Wandt during the debtor-in-possession proceedings so that we can leverage the logistics market’s great potential,” said managing director Ms Aline Wandt. “We are confident that we will be able to successfully restructure our company under our own steam.”

Restructuring expert Mr Torsten Gutmann will oversee the proceedings as provisional insolvency monitor in the interests of creditors. The attorney commented, “We are liaising closely with all of the parties involved. Our common goal is to position the company for long-term sustainability.”
