PLUTA restructuring expert Dr Christian Kaufmann appointed provisional administrator for Hotel Reichshof GmbH

Hotel Reichshof GmbH, which runs Tides Boutique Hotel in Norden, East Frisia, has filed for insolvency. Following this, on 8 October 2026, the Local Court of Aurich, as the competent court, ordered provisional insolvency administration for the company’s assets and appointed attorney Dr Christian Kaufmann from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH as provisional administrator.

The restructuring expert informed the 76 employees about the latest developments today. Their wages and salaries are guaranteed for a period of three months thanks to specific substitute benefits from the Federal Employment Agency provided under German insolvency law. “The hotel and restaurant remain fully operational. Guests can continue to make bookings. We will now analyse the economic situation and, along with management, explore the options for a sustainable restructuring,” said Dr Christian Kaufmann. He is being supported in the PLUTA restructuring team by attorney Ms Natalia Leo as well as business management experts Ms Vivien Doll and Dr André Schulte.

The hotel in Norden is a long-standing family business with a history stretching back to 1956. Now run by the third generation of the family, it has individually styled rooms and lofts, a restaurant and a spa and wellness area.

Its economic difficulties are due in particular to the financial burden of repaying COVID-19 relief as well as increased running and staffing costs. Persistent customer reluctance to spend has put further pressure on the business.

Ms Martina Haver-Franke, co-managing director of Hotel Reichshof GmbH, said, “This has been a very difficult decision for us, but we feel it is the only way we can overcome the many challenges and achieve the best outcome for all key stakeholders. We will engage constructively throughout the proceedings and work with the provisional insolvency administrator on a long-term solution for our company.”
