PLUTA partner Steffen Beck achieves solution for Golfclub Schloss Weitenburg AG

Good news for Golfclub Schloss Weitenburg AG: insolvency administrator Mr Steffen Beck from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH has achieved a continuation solution for the Starzach golf club. As no agreement could be reached with any of the external interested parties, the members of the golf club will acquire the business under an asset deal via an ‘in-house solution’. All employees will be kept on and golfing operations will be maintained without disruption.

To implement this solution, the members have established the company Golfclub Schloss Weitenburg Betriebs GmbH i.G. and the association Golfclub Weitenburg 1984 e.V., which will acquire all of the assets as well as the shares in the company Golfanlage unter der Weitenburg UG.

“The solution is very good news for the members, employees and all other stakeholders. I am particularly pleased that the golf club’s members have joined forces and assumed responsibility for its future,” said insolvency administrator Mr Steffen Beck. “Golfing operations can continue without interruption and all jobs have been saved. We have also delivered the best possible outcome for the creditors and achieved our primary objectives in the proceedings.”

Members take the reins

PLUTA restructuring expert Mr Beck held discussions with several potential buyers during the proceedings. While the negotiations with some interested parties reached an advanced stage, ultimately no agreement could be concluded with any of them.

This led to further work on the in-house solution that has now been implemented. With the newly established operating company and the association, the structures needed to take the golf club into the future are now in place.

Mr Joachim Kern, managing director of the operating company, said, “Golfclub Schloss Weitenburg is far more than just a sports complex for its members. That is why it was important to us to assume responsibility ourselves and to come together to establish a sustainable way forward. We are delighted that the golfing operations can continue, and now we want to further develop the club with its members.”

Golfing operations maintained throughout the proceedings

Golfclub Schloss Weitenburg AG had had to file for insolvency due to liquidity problems. By its decision taken on 7 November 2025, the Local Court of Tübingen ordered provisional insolvency administration and appointed PLUTA attorney Mr Steffen Beck as provisional administrator. On 1 February 2026, the court opened insolvency proceedings and appointed Mr Beck as regular insolvency administrator. He kept the business operating without restriction for ten months during the proceedings and the golf club remained open as usual. In parallel to this, the team worked on a long-term solution for the golf facility, which has now been implemented with the agreed transfer.

Established in 1984, Golfclub Schloss Weitenburg in Starzach is one of Baden-Württemberg’s most scenic golfing destinations. It holds both 9- and 18-hole tournaments on its 27-hole course, which is generally open for play all year round.
