PLUTA restructuring expert Frank Brachwitz seeks investor for MBL Akustikgeräte GmbH & Co. KG based in Berlin

23 June 2025 · Berlin · Business Area Insolvency Administration

Berlin-based MBL Akustikgeräte GmbH & Co. KG, a world-renowned manufacturer of premium loudspeakers and audio electronics, filed for insolvency on 27 May 2025. The Local Court of Charlottenburg appointed restructuring expert Mr Frank Brachwitz from the PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH branch in Berlin as provisional insolvency administrator. Business operations have since been maintained without restriction. All of the usual points of contact are still available, and staff are continuing to process new orders reliably and to the company’s consistently high standard. MBL has a workforce of 50 or so employees at two locations, whose wages and salaries are guaranteed thanks to specific substitute benefits provided under German insolvency law. The US subsidiary is not affected by the insolvency.

MBL has been producing audio devices of uncompromising quality for decades. It manufactures all loudspeakers and electronics entirely at its own production facility on the outskirts of Berlin. MBL’s Radialstrahler loudspeakers have an outstanding reputation among audiophiles and music aficionados worldwide. The unique combination of technological precision, emotional soundscape and iconic design has made MBL a leading brand in high-end audio.

Attorney Mr Brachwitz is now looking for an investor for MBL that will secure the well-established company’s long-term future. To this end, the provisional insolvency administrator has launched a structured process of finding an investor and already held initial discussions with interested parties. The aim is to find a viable investor solution for MBL within the framework of the proceedings.

“Solid basis for a sustainable investor solution”

“We are already holding initial discussions with potential investors and are seeing strong interest in the company and its products,” said provisional insolvency administrator Mr Brachwitz. He continued, “MBL has an experienced team, a good product portfolio and a well-established presence in global markets. The company’s innovative capacity is impressive. This gives us a solid basis for developing new prospects within the context of an investor solution.”

MBL’s management team under Mr Christian Hermeling also feels optimistic. Mr Hermeling said, “Our employees are motivated and committed, and I am delighted with that. We are working with the provisional insolvency administrator and his team on future prospects for our company. I am personally very optimistic that we will succeed in this in the short term.” M&A expert Mr Hubertus Bartelheimer (Dr. Wieselhuber & Partner) is supporting the process of finding an investor. The provisional insolvency administrator’s team includes attorney Mr Nicolas Konkel from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH.
