Download as PDFAPUS Zero Emission GmbH has filed for insolvency. Following this, on 3 March 2025, the Local Court of Frankfurt (Oder), as the competent court, ordered provisional insolvency administration for the company’s assets and appointed Mr Sebastian Laboga from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH as provisional administrator.
The company, which has developed the world’s first emission-free aircraft in recent years, has had to file for insolvency due to financial constraints. The challenges of the past few months have highlighted the severe financial pressure on the market for emission-free aviation solutions. The company currently lacks a financially strong partner that can ensure its long-term funding.
The PLUTA team made up of Mr Sebastian Laboga and Mr Michael Bohnhoff has held initial discussions with APUS management in recent days. The company’s business operations will be maintained. The 66 employees will be paid over the coming three months through specific substitute benefits provided under German insolvency law. As a next step, a process of finding an investor will be initiated. Attorney Mr Sebastian Laboga said, “The company has developed innovative technology. APUS needs an investor to successfully bring its emission-free i-2 aircraft to market. We will hold discussions with potential investors in the coming weeks.”
Founded in 2014, APUS is known for the development of the hydrogen-powered i-2 light aircraft and its innovative engineering services in aviation technology. It is an EASA-certified design and production organisation. During the insolvency proceedings, the intention is to position APUS for the future and build a stable business, with a special emphasis on aviation engineering services.
APUS Zero Emission GmbH is still operating in the market, and preparations for the maiden flight of the APUS i-2 are set to continue. Management views the proceedings as a necessary step in strategically repositioning the company for the future and finding a sustainable solution that will preserve APUS Zero Emission.
