Insolvency administrator Mr Stefan Kahnt from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH has achieved a follow-up solution in the insolvency proceedings for Breitenfelder Verwaltungs GmbH: Hotel Schloss Breitenfeld will become part of Bernstein Hotels & Resorts based in Falkenstein. The newly established Bernstein Schloss Breitenfeld GmbH has acquired the business operations of Hotel Schloss Breitenfeld and of the manor home effective 1 October 2026.

The acquisition will safeguard the hotel’s long-term operation. Attorney Mr Stefan Kahnt said, “The Schloss Breitenfeld hotel and conference centre has a long history in Leipzig. I am delighted that we have now found a solution. All of the hard work we have put in over the past few months to keep the hotel running has paid off.”

On 9 March 2026, the Local Court of Leipzig appointed Mr Stefan Kahnt as provisional insolvency administrator for Breitenfelder Verwaltungs GmbH. The restructuring expert has kept the hotel operating without restriction for the past seven months. New bookings have still been accepted and events have gone ahead as planned. On 1 June 2026, the insolvency proceedings were opened and the PLUTA attorney was appointed regular administrator. Even after that, the hotel continued operating on a full-cost basis.

The PLUTA restructuring team also comprises attorney Mr Heinz-Joachim Hombach as well as Mr Norman Scheller (BA Honours Business and Law). Business management expert Mr Enrico Noack from Trinus-Restrukturierung GmbH based in Leipzig has been helping to keep the hotel operating.

Ms Kerstin Gottschalk, the previous managing director, has welcomed the solution: “It is great news that the hotel has been saved and I am particularly pleased that it will remain family-run.”

Long-established hotel with potential

Managing director Mr Niklas Jung from Bernstein Schloss Breitenfeld GmbH said, “We see great potential in this long-established hotel and will ensure the seamless continuation of operations. It is important to us that we preserve the hotel’s family-run character and develop it further over the long term. As a family business, we are committed to ensuring that all our properties embody tradition and hospitality and are hotels with a history that is unique to them.”

With its combination of historical elegance and modern comforts, Hotel Schloss Breitenfeld provides the perfect setting for conferences, events and sophisticated stays. The hotel has 69 comfortable rooms and 4 luxurious suites.

Bernstein Hotels & Resorts is a family-run business that combines tradition, craftsmanship and culture and tells the story of amber in many parts of Germany (Bernstein being the German word for ‘amber’). This journey began in Saxony-Anhalt. To this day, the company continues to actively mine amber there and sells one-of-a-kind fossil finds around the world. This unique character is also reflected in each property, as every hotel represents a different era and history. The diverse tourism destinations offer a wide range of leisure and accommodation options, as well as conference, wellness and golfing facilities.
