Mr Ivo-Meinert Willrodt, Head of the International Desk at PLUTA, has taken part in the NextGen Leadership Conference organised by the International Insolvency Institute in London. Under the direction of Prof Dr Bob Wessels, Mr Willrodt and other experts discussed Britain’s exit from the European Union and the legal consequences. During the conference, there was also a discussion about current developments in international insolvency law.
Ivo-Meinert Willrodt’s conclusion: “Cross-border insolvencies involving Great Britain will become more complicated. Great Britain will have to negotiate bilateral agreements with each state in the EU individually in order to have their insolvency proceedings recognised. It will become much more difficult to promote schemes of arrangements in Europe.”
A difficult topic at the conference was initial solutions on the basis of English law and the Great Repeal Bill, the law that will repeal European law in Great Britain. In addition to the cross-border schemes of arrangements, above all the consequences for Great Britain as a restructuring location were discussed.
At PLUTA, Mr Willrodt primarily deals with complex cases of corporate restructuring in Germany as well as with national and international insolvency proceedings and restructuring processes. Moreover, he coordinates PLUTA’s activities in the international network BTG Global Advisory.
